ShiJie Weng (1976–) has long devoted his practice to the language of monochrome glazes. Since 2012, he has conducted focused research on copper-red firing, establishing it as one of his signature glaze families. In Langhong Large Plum Vase, the classic plum-vase silhouette forms the structural foundation: a full, rounded shoulder transitions into a tightened neck, creating a poised tension that feels both calm and refined. The vessel is enveloped in a rich, deep langhong red—luminous yet restrained—where gloss, depth, and tonal variation reveal the decisive interplay of kiln temperature, glaze chemistry, and time. Rather than relying on ornate decoration, the work draws its strength from the subtle shifts within a single hue: gentle flow, layered density, and a quietly breathing surface. Its overall proportion reflects a disciplined aesthetic—neither excessive nor underdone, not too much, not too little—just enough—allowing form and color to speak with clarity and enduring presence.
